{"id":707,"date":"2012-05-21T17:01:10","date_gmt":"2012-05-21T22:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nflconcussionlitigation.com\/?p=707"},"modified":"2012-05-22T20:32:44","modified_gmt":"2012-05-23T01:32:44","slug":"hall-of-famer-eric-dickerson-leads-the-latest-group-of-retirees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nflconcussionlitigation.com\/?p=707","title":{"rendered":"Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson Leads the Latest Group of Retirees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, a group of 15 retirees filed suit against the NFL alleging that it did not do enough to prevent the long-term damage caused by concussions.\u00a0 The group is led by Hall of Famer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DickEr00.htm\">Eric Dickerson<\/a>\u00a0and two-time Pro Bowler <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GranHo00\/gamelog\/post\/\">Hoyle Granger<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Texas by the law firm Provost Umphrey.<\/p>\n<p>Among the 15 retirees suing, are the Estates of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LuncDa20.htm\">David Lunceford <\/a>and Hall of Famer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/StauEr00.htm\">Ernie Stautner<\/a>. The lawsuit alleges that both players were suffering from Alzheimer\u2019s at the time of their death. Lunceford died at the age of 75 in May 2009, and Stautner died at the age of 80 in February 2006. Quizzically, the lawsuit does not specifically assert a wrongful-death claim.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Updated 5\/22\/2012 @ 9:23 a.m.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yet another lawsuit was filed on Monday in the Superior Court of California &#8212; Los Angeles: Johnnie Morton et al v. NFL. It names 13 former players as plaintiffs. The most notable player is 12-season veteran Johnnie Morton who played primarily for the Detroit Lions and then played three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. According to a few astute Tweeps, they notified me that Morton also tried MMA fighting after walking away from football.
